The Approach
Our approach was built around close collaboration with the interior designer and respect for the period of the house.
Rather than strip the character out, we set out to reinstate it, reintroducing the cornicing, mouldings and detailing that give a Victorian home its warmth alongside the comfort and performance expected of a modern family home.
A full refurbishment across multiple floors depends on sequencing.
We ran the trades in the right order, from strip out and tanking through to the finishing details, and worked with the designer at each stage so the scheme was delivered precisely and the finish held.

The Build
Strip out and tanking
The project began with a full strip out. On investigation, the property had never been tanked properly internally where it meets the neighbour’s drive, and years of water ingress had destroyed the floor joists and structural dwarf walls below.
We removed the entire sub floor, excavated and poured new foundations, and re-tanked the property, giving the house a dry, sound base to build back from.
Reinstating the period detailing
This was the heart of the project. New decorative cornicing, ceiling roses and panel mouldings were installed throughout to the designer’s scheme, and marble fireplaces and mantelpieces were fitted as room centrepieces.
Herringbone flooring was laid to add warmth and texture, reinstating the detail that makes a Victorian home feel like one.
Rewire and services
The house was rewired throughout, with new lighting schemes tailored room by room, from downlights and pendants to wall lights and bedside switching, finished with the designer’s chosen decorative fittings.
A full plumbing and heating installation followed, with period-style radiators, bringing the house up to standard without disturbing its character.
Joinery and finishes
Bespoke joinery was made by specialist partners to the designer’s scheme and installed by Ultra, including a fitted dressing room with glass-fronted wardrobes.
The house was finished with high-quality painting and decorating, new carpets and fine detailing throughout.

External work
Externally, the property was brought back up to standard while staying true to its period appearance. Roof repairs made the house watertight, the external walls were re-rendered, and the façade was redecorated.
With a new bespoke glazed front door, the house now presents cleanly from the street and is protected for years to come.
The Result
The finished home is a warm, well-detailed refurbishment that has restored the Victorian character of the house.
Every room has been reworked to a high standard and brought up to modern comfort, while the reinstated detailing, mouldings and fireplaces give the interior a real sense of permanence.
Delivered in close partnership with interior designer, Jemma Goodman, it is a considered transformation that balances craft with comfort.
